face rejuvenation (rhytidoplasty)

What is

rhytidoplasty

Rhytidoplasty or face rejuvenation (Lifting) is the procedure that allows integral rejuvenation of face aged by the passing of time. Through the years face skin is weakened because of gravity and it drops. This is evidenced in the forehead, eyebrows, cheeks, mouth and mandible, generating a bulged shape of the face, stressing wrinkles and giving the sense of an expression of tiredness and/or bad mood.

With surgery, not only skin but all the muscle and support system of the face are repositioned, thus significantly recovering the juvenile expression, structures such as cheeks and mouth commissures are back in the right place. Also, when removing extra skin, it is tensed again, wrinkles are reduced, shape and angles of mandible and neck are recovered.

1What other names is this procedure called?
Rhytidoplasty, face rejuvenation, facial lifting, rhytidectomy, facelift.
2How is rhytidoplasty made?
All facial structures are reached through an incision on the ear, which are re-accommodated, at the same time, excess skin is removed and the objective is reached. If surgery is not the alternative, there are nonsurgical treatments with laser that may get very good results (not as much as surgery), but enough to rejuvenate the face.
3How long does this procedure take?
Surgery time may vary depending on the specific case of each patient, but it is approximately 3 to 4 hours.
4What precautions does facelift have?
After surgery, attend controls, follow recommendations, apply indicated lotions, hydrate skin and use permanent sunblock.
5Am I a potential prospect for facelift?
You could be the potential patient for facial rejuvenation if you have: deep wrinkles, skin flaccidity and fallen tissue, hanging, lose or excess skin in face and neck.
6Is post-surgery required for facial rejuvenation?
Every surgical procedure requires post-surgery; at least 7 sessions are recommended for facial rejuvenation to obtain prompt reduction of swelling and recovery. A week of rest time is also recommended.
7Am I going to have anti-aesthetic scars after surgery?
Every procedure related to surgery implies scars, nevertheless, plastic surgeons are experts in hiding and minimizing scars, regardless of the procedure. Scars are hidden in front and behind the ears, in some points of the scalp and under the chin thus they will be less notorious.
8Is it true that the face is stretched and the surgery is noticeable?
NO. An appropriately made procedure leaves a natural and aesthetic result which sole objective is to rejuvenate the face. In accordance to satisfaction data this is of more than 95%.
9Is rhytidoplasty very painful?
More than pain it may generate a lot of discomfort because of swelling of eyes and face. These are treated with medication and a guide that helps to good adherence to skin.
10When will I see the final results?
It is considered that results depend on the characteristics of each patient’s age, wrinkles, among other factors that let results be seen on a determined lapse of time.
11How long do results last?
The range may be between 8 and 12 years, depending on the specific characteristics of each patient (type of skin, cares of skin, facial expressions, among other factors).
12Can this surgery be combined?
This surgery may be combined with eye lid surgery (blepharoplasty) and forehead lifting (Frontoplasty).
