Eye lid surgery

Blepharoplasty or plastic eye lid surgery is the procedure in which rejuvenation of upper eye lids, lower eye lids or even both in case it is necessary, is done. Because of the passing of time, genetic factors, stress, lack of sleep, among other factors, eye lids begin to have an excess of skin, wrinkles and eye bags that in some cases give the impression of a sad or tired look.

The objective of surgery is to improve aesthetic and functional eye issues in order to give a younger look, without excess skin, reduction of wrinkles, while correcting functional problems, significantly improving daily activities such as Reading and watching TV.

TO OUR OFFICE

1What other names does this procedure have?
Blepharoplasty, plastic eye lid surgery, fallen eye lid surgery.
2How long does this procedure take?
Surgery time may vary according to each patient’s case (procedure in upper eye lids, lower lids, or in both cases), but it may last about 2 hours.
3Am I a potential prospect for blepharoplasty?
You may be a potential plastic eye lid surgery patient if you have: hanging, lose or in excess skin in your upper eye lids and eye bags, and/or wrinkles under eyes.
4What are the special precautions of blepharoplasty?
Eyes have to be prepared for surgery hydrating them with artificial tears a few days before, lotions to reduce swelling and edema must be used. After surgery, use of cold bandages on the eye area for the first two days, protect from sun with sunblock, glasses and/or hat, and keep each eye lubricated every 3 hours.
5How is a blepharoplasty done?
Through incisions on eye lids which are previously designed so they are not noticeable and the scar is not visible, extra skin and wrinkles are removed, eye fat bags are resected or repositioned and functional problems are corrected.
6Does blepharoplasty reduce eye bags?
A noticeable reduction of eye bags that are formed because of the bags underneath eyes is possible with this procedure, it is necessary to clarify that these are made more notorious because of the darker tone of this skin zone. There are supplementary products and/or procedures to treat those cases, reducing skin pigment and stains, such as tonics, lotions, creams and laser.
7Is post-surgery necessary for blepharoplasty?
Every surgical procedure requires post-surgery, at least 4 sessions are recommended for blepharoplasty to get a prompt reduction of swelling and recovery.
8Am I going to have anti-aesthetic scars after surgery?
Every procedure related with surgery implies scars, nevertheless, plastic surgeons are experts in hiding and minimizing scars, regardless of the procedure made. A blepharoplasty scar is left in the folds of eye lids thus they shall be even less notorious.
9Does blepharoplasty procedure much pain?
More than pain it may generate a lot of discomfort because of the swelling that is produced around the eyes, making vision a little difficult during for a couple of days.
10Can this surgery be combined?
In some cases, by performing only upper lid surgery it is not possible to obtain total eye opening, because the eyebrow, when fallen, generates an “additional weight” to the eye lid, which cannot totally lift these structures. In this case it is necessary to combine the procedure with a forehead lift or frontoplasty.
